Domaine Grand Romane
 |
Owned by the Family Amadieu for many years, the Domaine
Grand Romane produces Côtes du Rhône (Red and White) wines as well as a world
wide known Gigondas. The wines are distributed through the most famous Hotels,
Restaurants and Retailers in France but also in many foreign countries.
The Côtes du Rhône and Gigondas "Domaine Grand Romane" are the fruits of a drastic
selection of the most ripened varieties, a traditional vinification and a maturation
in the best new oak barrels during 12 to 18 months. The 40 hectares' vineyard
is located at the feet of the Dentelles de Montmirail, between 100 and 300 meters
high, among this vineyard, two buildings called "La Romane" and "La Machotte"
were built many years ago.
The red Côtes du Rhône is achieved with the young vines of the vineyard whereas
the white Côtes du Rhône is produced with 50 year old Clairette vines and a
very small part (5%) of white Grenache. To give more specificity and a touch
of modernism, this white Côtes du Rhône is fermented in new oak barrels which
brings more complex aromas and more body.
The Gigondas "Domaine Grand Romane" is achieved with the oldest vines of the
Estate; harvests are made by hand in order to select the most ripened grapes,
we really focus on the wine making in the respect of each variety and of the
terroir.
The vineyard is planted with the following grape varieties:
White: Clairette, White Grenache Red: Black Grenache (at least
50%), Syrah and Mourvèdre (between 10 and 30% of each depending on the vintage)-
Cinsault and Counoise -

The wine making takes place in
the building called "La Romane" set up in the heart of the vineyard probably
during the Roman Area. Grapes are 100% destemmed and the alcoholic fermentation
is a mix of long vatting and a very little part of long carbonic maceration.
As soon as possible, wines are put in new oak barrels of 225 liters and
stored in the building "La Machotte", an underground cellar where the
constant temperature is 14°.
The final part of the work is the bottling, all these wines are estate
bottled in our Domain.
