The traditional wine making process is carefully made to enhance the great potential of the Syrah bunches picked up at their best maturity.

On the nose, black currant, raspberries fragrances together with a hint of violet are very typical of Syrah wines. Delicate, the mouth is silky but powerful showing red fruits notes, tannins are round and soft. The colour is deep and the alcohol content is low moving to truffles and mushroom aromas after few years.

Taste and appreciate this beautiful wine at room temperature (17°C) while young or within the following 6 years. This charming wine will match perfectly with a roasted beef in sauce or a veal escalope on fresh vegetables.

Since the 12th century, Northern Rhône wines are demanded through Europe. The vineyard of Crozes Hermitage is near the well-known and famous Hermitage.

The Controlled Appellation

Crozes Hermitage became an appellation controlled wine in 1937 and can produce either red or white wines. For the red the only grape allowed is Syrah (a maximum of 15% of Marsanne or Roussane can be added to the wine). Both wines need at least 10 % of alcohol, the maximum yield is 40 hectoliter per hectare. The vineyard of this appellation is expanding and covers 11 villages. Its surface is now 1100 hectares, the largest of the Northern Rhône Appellation.

Terroir

From the hill of Hermitage you can see the vineyard of Crozes Hermitage in the plain. Between the villages of Serves (North) and Pont de l'Isère (South) the vineyard spreads over 16 km long. The Northern part is composed of granite slopes and parcels are usually very steep. Going to the south, richer table lands appear composed by glacio-fluvial alluviam bearing the rounded stones of the Rhône, or of loess.
