Spring is here and the vines bring it to light! As we finished the winter pruning, we went into the vines to crush the cut shoots and we started ploughings. The vines start to ” tear “: this is the sign that the plant is coming out of its dormancy period. The 2023 vintage is coming.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our grandfather was a pioneer in many things. As early as the 1950s, he used to pasture a large group of sheep in the vineyard<\/strong> during the off-season – up to 700 sheep – to control grass cover and provide a natural manure! This winter, we renewed this practice<\/strong> in the vineyard of Romane and La Machotte with a flock from the region.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After the 2019 vintage, it is now time to award our Gigondas Domaine Grand Romane rouge 2021<\/a><\/strong> with the gold medal at the Concours des Vignerons Ind\u00e9pendants 2023. Maintaining and sustaining the vineyard<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Planted in the 1950s, the oldest part of our Gigondas vineyard needs to be renewed in some areas. The highest parcels of the estate, located at an altitude of 500m and planted with Syrah, are particularly concerned. Every year since 2019, we have started uprooting and planting in small areas. This year, we are experimenting with “grafting in place<\/strong>“. This technique involves planting the rootstock first and then inserting the graft one or two years later. The main advantage of this type of grafting is to take benefit of a functional root system<\/strong>, which allows an earlier production of grapes with more strength.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
